We are living in a world that requires that we keep our selves constantly in tune with technology both socially and professionally. To achieve this we need electronic gadgets, in most scenarios consumers own 2 to 3 devices. What happens to the gadgets when they are no longer in use is an important focus area, our project and our organization 2JPK aims to investigate what consumers specifically in Norway do to their gadgets. It is important to understand this issue from both a grassroots point of view and what consumers think is the best approach to handle the gadgets when they are broken and/or not longer in use.
Because of the high rate of electronic waste (e-waste) in Norway, we want to focus on consumers attitude towards usage and disposal in this region. Using Norway as a sample we can figure out strategic ways to manage this arising modern day problem. From this we can apply solution on a local scale depending on the success and apply the solutions on a global scale, as this is a global issue. The main objective is to see what we can do to minimize the amount of electronic waste and the high consumption of new electronic gadgets.
Through a survey, we identified people's responses towards three approaches: 1) Recycle and recover, 2) Sharing platform and 3) Product life extension. From this survey we was able to get an understanding about the current situation about the usage, disposal and attitude toward this growing problem, and will be presenting them through our poster and presentation.
