

Unpack Oceanpac in Taiwan

The purpose of this research is to analyse how Oceanpac Engineering Pte Ltd will enter the market in Taiwan. The scope of this report presents findings on the Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) industry, as well as an economic, social, technological, legal and environmental analysis of the Taiwanese market. Furthermore, this research examines the best mode of entry for Oceanpac to establish a presence in Taiwan.
The report then proceeds to present major legal regulations applicable to Oceanpac should the company enter Taiwan – these regulations include labour laws, tax regulations and sales and distribution regulations. Research for this project was obtained from secondary sources such as industry reports and governmental data. Quantitative data was used to analyze Taiwan’s economic situation, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), etc. Qualitative data was obtained through a literature review to examine the market environment of Taiwan, the OCTG industry, as well as various modes of entry commonly used by foreign companies entering a country.
An inductive approach was employed as we conducted this research. It was found that the OCTG industry is highly competitive and has experienced a slow in growth; however, the positive political, economic and legal relations between Singapore and Taiwan help make conditions favourable for Oceanpac to enter Taiwan. This report recommends that Oceanpac enter the country using a Joint Venture (JV), and the kind of partner it should look for to promote the success of the JV. Other recommendations made include promoting environmental sustainability in Oceanpac’s operations, employing locals, and others pertaining to regulations in Taiwan.
