CYCLOTOURISM IN SINGARORE:
OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

Our presentation was divided in three part, first of all we discussed about the project

background in Singapore, and we gave examples about Japan, Taiwan and Europe; secondly

we presented a SWOT analysis of the project and the issues to be addressed; and finally the

last part was about the possible outcomes of this project.

Nowadays the developed countries want to have cities with a healthier and ecological

environment. Currently there are already some bicycle lanes in Singapore but most of them

are not located in the centre so they are not available for the growth of cyclotourism in

Singapore, because the most interesting places to visit are located in the centre of Singapore.

In Europe cyclotourism is already very developed, many circuits already exist,

particularly between countries. In Japan, such as in Europe, this form of tourism is very

developed thanks to many bicycle lanes. Finally in Taiwan Cyclotourism is just starting to

develop, but many agencies start to open.

Through our SWOT we have identified many strengths such as our price which is 80

SGD for adult and 25 SGD for U-10; we have a wide selection of tour; and Singapore is one

of the most visited country in Asia and a safe country. Regarding the weaknesses, we could

say that it will be maybe too physical for the oldest and the youngest especially because of the

weather; furthermore the infrastructures are not suitable at all because they are not many

infrastructures available in the centre. However we have many opportunities such as the fact

that there is a wish of diversification of visiting a city; then Singapore wants to be more

ecological and they are huge opportunities of market share in this form of tourism. Finally we

have some threats, indeed they are already few competitors; cylotourism is not famous in

Singapore for now; and it’s a crowded city with a heavy traffic.

The biggest issue we have identify that we will face is about the infrastructures in

Singapore. Indeed they are no any bicycles lanes in the centre of Singapore or around the

most famous place.

Our last part was about the possible outcomes of this project. We have three main

outcomes. First it will show that Singapore is engaged in ecology and give a good image of

Singapore, secondly it will Attract more tourists and be able to propose them a new way to

discover Singapore and to do tourism and finally it will improve bicycle path for all the

inhabitants of Singapore

REBRANDING AND REPOSITIONING OF
THAVORN BEACH VILLAGE RESORT AND SPA

Our topic is about the rebranding and repositioning of Thavorn Beach

Village Resort and Spa (TBVRS) in Phuket, Thailand. The resort categorizes itself

as a luxury resort and has run for approximately 30 years. They claim to be

located between two of the largest beach in Phuket, Kamala and Patong Beach.

The resort itself also houses the Nakalay private beach. Other than Nakalay

private beach, TBVRS also offers facilities like hillside cable car, Nakalay wellness

spa, one of the largest free-form lagoon swimming pool in Southeast Asia, and

many more.

Having run for 30 years, the hotel undergoes a decline in their reputation

and needs reinforcement of their luxury status. Many hotel guests have stated

their complaints and expectations from the hotel, saying the hotel lacks service,

has outdated facilities and furniture (leading to hygiene issues), and bad

location. There is also the matter of increase in the number of competitors, being

located in one of the world’s appealing tourist destination.

Through thorough research the team has come to a set of advice and

recommendations that the resort can take up in their plans on investing for the

hotel’s maintenance and upkeeps. Basing our research on the needs and

characteristics of what is called a luxurious hotel, we have evaluated the hotel’s

strength and weaknesses and how they can try to overcome it. There are many

opportunities that the hotel can take through rebranding and repositioning, all

the while keeping their authentic Thailand structures and values.

CYCLOTOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN SINGAPORE

Our group is doing cyclotourism development project in Singapore. The purpose of our

project is to develop bicycle tourism in Singapore, to examine the challenges and opportunities

and we will also provide strategic plan for developing cyclotourism in Singapore. We choose this

project because cyclotourism is become popular in Singapore and our government also try to

promote sustainability of Singapore. Bike tour is the very sustainable mode of transportation and

it help to reduce carbon emission. Our group did some secondary research on cyclotourism

projects and provide literature reviews about the bike tours.

We also conduct SWOT analysis for our project. By doing SWOT analysis we know our

project better and we can address our weakness and strength. In this way we can use our strength

to get success and grab opportunity easily. As Cyclotourism is still under-develop in Singapore,

the infrastructure of the Singapore still need to improve to promote sustainable bike tour. Our

main weakness is that Singapore don’t have the proper route or lane for bicycle and people also

don’t have enough sustainability knowledge compare to Europe.

In order to develop this cyclotourism project, we do secondary research on cycling

project and company both from Asia and Europe. Some of the success and failure factors was

found and we can learn from this project and to adopt in Singapore. Many challenges may also

face when developing the cyclotourism in Singapore. Therefore, we address the possible

challenges and come out with some recommendation.

The Strategic plan also will be provide for cycloturism development project in Singapore.

As we need to consider about the infrastructure, we will come out with two type of bicycle tour

both for individual and group package tours. Our group will try to plan the routes and tour

package for both international tourist and local people. We would like to offer bicycle tours and

services that provide unique travel and learning experiences in Singapore.

REBRANDING AND REPOSITIONING OF
THAVORN BEACH VILLAGE RESORT AND SPA

The Thavorn Beach Village Resort and Spa is a famous four-star hotel situated in Phuket, Thailand.

Created in 1988, the hotel has a strategic location on the beachfront that provides a natural and

peaceful environment. Its success and recognition is mostly due to its quality services, as Spa &

Retreatment and Food & Beverage offerings.

In addition to that, its private beach, traditional Thai architecture style, panoramic sea view, and the

presence of the only cable car in the area enhance potential uniqueness and competitive advantage of

the Resort.

Regrettably, the resort is somehow struggling during these past fiscal years.

The conducted project aims to provide a deep analysis of the hotel internal and external environments,

including a brief review of luxury hotels in Thailand and in Phuket in order to establish the current

trends of consumers’ expectations as well as the other major factors impacting hotel’s success.

Ultimately, needed improvements and solutions that would drive the Thavorn Beach Village Resort and

Spa right to the top again are exposed.

To do so, the main method adopted is a strong data base with a wide primary and secondary data

researches. Regarding the primary data, a field study has been done in Thailand, added to a customers’

expectations survey. Concerning the secondary data, the team members have consulted some journal

articles and booking website.

DISCOVER PEKANBARU: TOURISM DEVELOPMENT 2016-2026

Our subject is about the tourism development in Pekanbaru

We choose to create an identity of Pekanbaru, based on its cultural diversity. Pekanbaru is an Indonesian city, which benefits from an economic growth thanks to its oil business, and is the 7th city of the country in term of development. Only known for its oil business, the cosmopolitan culture present in the city is not enough emphasize. Multiple ethnicities live together, like Malays, Indonesian and Chinese, and there so many things that testify from that diversity. We choose to emphasize the Muslim culture with the architecture that represent it well, and one festival, which is a mix with Muslim and Malays culture. There is also the Malays culture, in one of their museum, and all the food areas that share this diversity. You will be able to discover it through our tourism plan, that also cover the short and long term plan, with the infrastructure development, the human resources needed, and the general improvement that the city have to do to compete other well developed cities around them, and attract the bounded countries tourist, that represent the main target of the development plan. Our main goal is the build a good representation of the city, based on the wonderful culture heritage that our present in the city, and will interest the bounded countries tourists, Singaporeans and Malaysians, who look for culture experience and escape from crowded atmosphere.
